Being invited to do a 2 meter session is always somewhat of an honour for today's bands. The series has been going on for such a long time now, and so many legendary musicians have done their thing there, it's almost impossible not to be impressed by the history of the sessions. dEUS' invitation back then must have been a sign dEUS truly was doing things the right way, and they were here to stay.
This compilation cd has Hotellounge on it, from their wonderfull session from '95. It sounds brilliant again, in it's acoustic glory, with Tom Barman doing the french lyrics at the end again.
Jan Douwe Kroeske, organisator/mentor/producer of the 2 meter sessions, comments on dEUS' track:

'These people from Antwerp like to explore the edges of rock music. They're very creative, and never sound alike. At the entrance of the 2 meter studios was an old, antique little piano of barely half a meter tall. The gentlemen of dEUS immediately fell in love with the toy. We moved it into the studio, and the old thing got a star role in Hotellounge. Tic tic, ploing, tic tic ploing...'

Other than the dEUS-track, I'm fond of Heather Nova's song, My iron lung by Radiohead, and Duke's cover of Ain't no sunshine. But that's just my own opinion and taste of course! :)
What I also like on this cd, ànd is a tiny bit dEUS-related, is the Screenwriter's blues track by Soul Coughing. During live gigs, Tom Barman likes to sing Hotellounge with a sample of this song; '...it's five AM, and you're listening to Los Angeles...'.
Well at least now you know where he got it.
So, a nice cd, worth considering if you like a couple of the bands and musicians on it- the 2 meter sessions have an excellent reputation after all
