Now this is what I call a bootleg! Nice artwork, excellent soundboard recordings and some great gigs. The gigs are unfortunately not complete- this bootleg has fragments of two different live gigs and one studio session, but they’re all excellent, and the band played some songs which never made it to an official cd. Can I get out? is an early version of Gimme the heat, Mr. dead won’t get me is a moody song by Stef Kamil Carlens which dEUS stopped playing years ago, Sweet child of mine is a cover from Guns ‘n Roses, clever white youth is a cover from Marc Ribot, and We’re going out tonight is a small and silly version of a song by the Lounge lizards, which has Tom, SKC and Rudy singing like they’re a bunch of old, drunken Irishmen. Say what you like, but dEUS live as on this bootleg blows dEUS as on the 1999 Freak show bootleg away. I don’t know how many copies were printed but you can certainly consider yourself a lucky man or woman if you’ve got this bootleg- it's rare. For more info on dEUS rarities and covers, go and see the excellent songbook section on [wwwcs3]. | |
