Yey ! A very nice compilation, this. It comes free with issue 4 of the French musiczine Salaud de P@uvre, released in August 2001. All the musicians donated their tracks for free, and all of them are previously unreleased tracks; either demo's of existing songs, or completely new ones. Most interesting bits are obviously this version of Gore Slut's Subway, a far rougher mix than the one on the single Stop. Rudy Trouvé's solo-track 'song under construction' is also very nice, (according to me) better than any of the tracks on Subsonic 6. Both Kiss My Jazz tracks come straight from the Collecting Postcards from foreign places demo, which is otherwise fairly unavailable anywhere. So that's definitely nice, and above all, Chinese Torture is a previously unreleased song altogether. Moving on to Heyme Langbroek's contribution, who made an alternative version of the Kiss My Jazz classic, Lovers and Place, and a very slow, moody, jazzy track. Quite nice. Daan Stuyven's share is also one unreleased song (which owes a lot to an ancient Adamo classic), and Diner Delon, which also appeared on his soundtrack to Verboden Te Zuchten. (nearly identical version) I could go on about Think Of One and Flat Earth Society's cool parts in this cd, or a bunch of nice surprises of French bands I never heard of before. Point is, this is a very nice compilation cd, with hardly nothing but good artists on it. Definitely worth checking out ! visit the salaud de P@uvre website to see if you can still order this magazine with the cd. | |
